A cosmetic dentistrysmall chip off a front tooth and some stubborn enamel stains mask the vibrant personality you know you have. Well, take heart. You can show off your best possible smile with a help from Norcross, GA cosmetic dentist, Dr. Orson Baek, at Smart Family Dental Care. Learn more about his array of amazing aesthetic services.

Your consultation

Any smile makeover, from the simplest to the most complex, begins with a consultation with Dr. Baek. He'll examine your teeth and gums and address any oral health issues you may have.

Then, with a healthy baseline, you and he can discuss how you'd like to enhance your teeth and gums. Before your appointment, consider your tooth color, shape, and alignment. Are there problems with spacing, excess gum tissue or defects such as cracks, uneven tooth length or chips? Be realistic in your ideas, and communicate them to Dr. Baek who will listen carefully and make suggestions to meet your smile goals.

Offered services

Bonding Also called direct bonding, or composite resin bonding, this simple, one-visit service repairs small enamel defects. Using a tooth-colored blend of glass particles and acrylic, bonding seamlessly attaches to tooth surfaces for a finish that's durable and natural looking. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry calls bonding an additive process because your Norcross cosmetic dentist adds the resin to the tooth in layers, hardening each to achieve the desired result.

Professional teeth whitening Offered as an at-home or in-office procedure, whitening at Smart Family Dental Care brightens stained and dull teeth by up to eight shades of color. In the office, the process takes about an hour. At home, the patient wears customized whitening trays daily for a prescribed amount of time. Both processes use a form of concentrated hydrogen peroxide gel to bleach out staining organic matter without any gum or dental sensitivity. Results last indefinitely with good oral hygiene, some dietary modifications, and regular hygienic cleanings.

Cosmetic contouring This refinishing treatment evens tooth length, smooths rough enamel and normalizes tooth shape with a fine grit sandpaper, drill or even a handheld laser tool. It requires one visit to Smart Family Dental Care and is economical. Often, it is the finishing touch on a complete smile makeover.

Porcelain veneers Customized from fine ceramic, veneers enhance teeth which have dark stains, gaps, crowding, chips, cracks, and more. A permanent restoration, these porcelain shells bond to the front of healthy teeth and add a measure of durability, too. To place veneers, Dr. Baek removes a thin slice of enamel from each tooth. With gentle care, veneers last upwards of a decade.

HowTaraLipinskiProtectsHerTeethfromtheDailyGrind

If you’re one of the millions of people all over the world tuning in to the Olympics, you know that just watching the competition in your living room can be a real nail-biter. So imagine what it’s like for Tara Lipinski—the former gold medalist in figure skating who’s currently a primetime commentator for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Korea. In a recent interview with Dear Doctor magazine, the skating superstar revealed that she wears a custom-made nightguard to protect her smile.

“I grind my teeth pretty badly,” she said, noting that some days are worse than others. “When I can tell the grinding is bad, or my jaw starts to hurt, [then] at night I wear a mouthguard.”

Tara’s hardly alone:  It’s estimated that around one in ten adults suffers from bruxism—the dental term for the habitual clenching or grinding of teeth. This condition, which is linked to stress (and several other risk factors), can occur during the daytime or at night—when it may go unnoticed as you sleep. If left untreated, bruxism can lead to headaches and jaw pain, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD), and damage to natural teeth or restorations such as crowns, veneers or fillings.

Fortunately, as Tara as found out, there’s a simple and effective way to help people struggling with the problem of teeth clenching and grinding: We can provide you with a custom-fabricated nightguard to stop bruxism from affecting your health. This device, usually made of high-impact plastic, is created from a model of your actual bite. It fits comfortably over your teeth, and can tooth prevent damage before it occurs.

A nightguard is a very conservative form of treatment, meaning that it involves no invasive or irreversible procedures. While other types of treatment are sometimes recommended for bruxism, it’s generally best to try the most conservative first. But how does it feel to wear it?

“I think it’s comfortable to wear,” Tara told Dear Doctor magazine. “You don’t even think about it.”

So whether you’re a type-A competitor or a dedicated fan watching the games unfold on TV, don’t let bruxism get the better of your smile. If you think you may be clenching or grinding your teeth, ask us about a custom-made nightguard.
