Laser Dentistry

The lasers used in laser dentistry emit narrow beams of light energy that can be used in a variety of ways to improve oral health. For instance, laser dentistry can be used for the early detection of possible cavities. During this process, the laser detects tiny pits and grooves on tooth surfaces that are not readily visible. Those small pits and grooves can be an indication that a cavity has developed in the tooth. Early detection of cavities is extremely beneficial, for once they're discovered, our dentist can treat the cavities before they get worse.

Another use of laser dentistry is the detection of tartar that has developed below the gum line. Tartar that has formed on exposed surfaces of the teeth can be readily noticed during an oral exam, but tartar that has formed below the gum line is easy to miss. Left undetected and untreated, tartar build-up below the gum line can eventually lead to the development of gum disease.

In addition to detecting potential oral health problems, laser dentistry from our Norcross office can also be used to treat a variety of dental concerns. These issues include:

  • Destroying bacteria within cavities
  • Removing unhealthy or infected tissue
  • Sealing cancer sores and ulcerations
  • Correcting gummy smiles
  • Lengthening crowns
  • Whitening dull or stained teeth
